The Ed and Irene Fleis
Education Fund has no input as to who is selected to receive the scholarship awards.
How do I get an application for the scholarship?
If you are a descendant of
family, (or by marriage), that live or lived in Solon or Centerville Township, in Leelanau County, Michigan (eligibility does
not require residency, only a lineage connection) and are in financial need:
If you would like to make a donation to the Ed and Irene Fleis Education Fund just click on the donate
button. You can use a credit card or your paypal account.
How does the selection process work?
Once you have completed the packet in its entirety, you then mail it to the selection committee prior to the
deadline. (Applications must be postmarked by the 30th of April or they will be declined.) The selection
committee (either the Cedar Chamber of Commerce or the Cedar/Maple City Lions Club, who alternate years) will than
select the winners based on a financial need. (These committees understand the need for confidentiality.) If there is a tie breaker needed in the selection process, local community involvement will be used. Incomplete applications are not considered.
The Ed and Irene Fleis Education Fund has no input as to who is selected
to receive the scholarship awards.
Where do I send the application?
It is your responsibility to mail the application packet to the correct
address. There is an address on the application of where to send them. Do not send them to the Norton Shores
address - they will be returned to you and you will then have to send them to the correct address listed on the application.
Please remember that applications postmarked after April 30th are declined.
Why do I need to fill out a FAFSA form? Since this is a financial need-based scholarship, it is mandatory.
When will I find out if I have been awarded a scholarship? The President of the
Ed and Irene Fleis Education Fund will call you once the selection committee has made their decisions (sometime in May).
If you have not been awarded a scholarship you will receive a letter in the mail. Remember, you may reapply every year
that you are in school (even if you have won a previous year).
If I am awarded a scholarship,
how is it paid? Checks are made payable to and mailed directly to the college once verification
has occured. You will receive a copy of the letter we send to the cashier's office. While we are making every
effort to get the scholarship gift to the College before tuition is due, keep in mind that in order to avoid late fees, it
is your responsibility to pay for the tuition by the due date.
