* Start searching for scholarships the year before you need them.
* Contact foundations, organizations, and churches in your community that may provide scholarships,
especially those in which you and/or your parents are active.
* Your local high school guidance office is also
a good source of information.
* Search for scholarship opportunities on the Internet at these web sites:
* Review the scholarship information in college catalogs and on college websites for scholarships available at
specific institutions.
* Visit the library in your high school or community for scholarship resource materials.
Applying for scholarships
* Make a file of the scholarships and their deadlines so you are applying on time.
Some scholarships may have deadlines as early as October 1 for the following year. It is important to begin your search
as early as possible.
* When making applications for scholarships, consider keeping a cover letter and resume on
a computer disk and modifying it as appropriate when applying for specific scholarships.
* Make a copy of the application
and any attachments before you send it in. Also make sure to find a contact number of name to follow up with the scholarship
donor.
* Remember to follow the instructions. If the application is not complete - odds are it will
not be considered. Double check your work.
* Be patient, sometimes it will be months before you know if you
have been chose to receive a scholarship. Statistics say for every 20 applications you put out 1 scholarship will be
awarded.
